Darlow Bag Sewalong - Part 1: Prepare Pocket Pieces and Sew Front Pocket

Welcome to the Darlow Bag sewalong everyone! Gather your supplies and let's dive in!

A note from Emily: I will start by saying that this bag was a true labour of love. It started out as a cute idea for a December pattern (we like to release an accessory pattern in December that can be made as a gift, or a nice little holiday project for yourself) and then as we got deeper in the design process we realised it just wasn't going to make sense as a December pattern. It was too involved, a little too challenging, and also quite a financial and time investment to give as a gift. We decided it needed more work, more testing and that we needed a simpler project for December. So we came up with the Fairbank hat and set this aside until now. We also ended up changing the construction process a number of times, so our sew-along will chop and change between different samples, so I apologise for any confusion as fabrics will change.

I have a post coming later in the month that delves into the testing process more as I know some of you are very interested in that side of things and I'd love to share it with you!

Let's start by cutting out our bag pieces, keeping the following in mind:

As the Darlow bag is asymmetrical, it is important that you cut all pieces with right side up. This means that when you lay out the fabric, the right side of the fabric is facing up and the pattern pieces are placed on the fabric with the printed side up.

Tip: you may like to draw straight lines with chalk up from the edges of the stitched box on the right side of the MIDDLE PANEL [2] to help you align the zip correctly in the next step.

Great job so far, Foldies. See you in the next instalment!
