Today's videos are about adding flare to pants and refers to the Neale jumpsuit Hack Kit.
A few of you asked about making the pants on the jumpsuit wider and what this would do to the crotch. As the pants are not a fitted style, we would not touch the crotch. If you were using a fitted pants block and adding a lot of width, you may want to alter the crotch.
Adding volume to pants (Lower section only) - e.g. Flared pants
This video shows you how to add flare to the pants pattern. This will not add width through the hip or upper section of the pattern.
Adding volume using the cut and spread technique
This video shows you how to use the cut and spread (also known as "slash and spread") technique to add volume to the pants. This will add volume to all areas (except the waist).
I had an issue at the end of this video unfortunately, so don't have the section where I talk about grainline. I will add a photo and some information below.

Due the the big change I made to the pattern, I needed to move the grainline back to the centre of the piece. If we left the grainline in it's original position, the side seam would be on the bias, which would change the silhouette of the garment.
If you would like to know more about the cut and spread technique and how to apply it to other garments, you can find some other posts from our blog below:
