Are you ready to make clothes you will wear, love and cherish?

In the Folds offers a monthly subscription that brings together patterns, techniques and answers your specific questions, all in one place, within the In the Folds community.

Curated by ITF projects will help you learn more skills, instead of just making more clothes.

Sewing a handmade wardrobe you are proud of is about learning the skills and building on them over time. With these resources (and access to our online community group), you will build a resource and pattern library that you can refer to on your handmade journey, empowering you to sew a wardrobe that you love, one piece and one skill at a time. We are excited for you to join us.

This Month's Project

If refined comfort is the goal for your wardrobe, the Lindon top will help you get there. A boxy top with thoughtfully placed details that elevate its minimalist design, it’s a gratifying design to sew and wear. Make it in woven or knit fabrics for totally different looks.

Ideal for spring and summer on its own, or perfect for layering under blazers and coats, Lindon transitions smoothly from day to night, and is a great piece to add to your daily wardrobe. We think you’re going to have a lot of fun with Lindon and the different ways you incorporate it into your wardrobe.

Garment Details

The Lindon top features an asymmetric shape, dropped shoulder and short sleeves, with a distinctive wrap-around panel that is highlighted by soft gathers through the bust. In the G-P size range the pattern features a bust dart on one side, which is balanced by a panel line on the other side.

View A is for woven fabrics and is sewn with French seams and a narrow bias bound neckline. View B is designed for knit fabrics, and has a banded neckline and twin needle hem finishes.

Keen to make View B, but need a bit of help working with knit fabrics? Check out our Sewing Knits series! Our Sewing knits Skills Kit and Kealy T-shirt pattern will have you well on your way to sewing knits with confidence and are available to current Curated by ITF members in our Past Issues catalogue for the discounted subscription price of $15AUD (plus taxes).

Suggested Fabrics

The Lindon top View A is compatible with light or medium weight woven that are soft with good drape. Consider: viscose/rayon, silk crepe de chine, cotton lawn or voile or crepe. It could also be made from georgette or chiffon, but keep in mind that these fabrics can be difficult to sew.

The Lindon top View B is compatible with light or medium weight jersey knits with a minimum of 20% stretch. Instructions for determining the amount of stretch in knit fabrics are included in the pattern.

Remember that the weight of the fabric will determine the amount of structure and drape in the both views of the Lindon top.

Fabric requirements and finished garment measurements can be found here.

Notions

Sizes A-J

View A:

  • Coordinating thread
  • 0.7m (0.8yd) x 25mm (1in) single fold bias tape. If using pre-made binding, this is 12mm (½in). If making it yourself, cut width of 25mm (1in).
  • 0.3m (0.3yd) x 32mm (1¼in) single fold bias tape. If using pre-made binding, this is 25mm (1in). If making it yourself, cut width of 32mm (1¼in).

View B:

  • Coordinating thread
  • Stretch needles to match your fabric type (80/12 will work well on most knits. Finer needles will be required for finer fabrics).
  • Stretch twin needle. Size between 2,5/80 - 4,0/90.
  • Fusible hem tape - stretch. We recommend using Heat N Bond Stretch (either Light or Ultra).

The pattern is available in both sizes A - J (drafted for a B sewing cup size) and sizes G - P (drafted for a D sewing cup size). Our size charts can be found here.

The Lindon top is designed to be relaxed in fit. Select a size based on your high bust measurement and then check the finished garment measurements for your size before choosing to do a Full Bust Adjustment (FBA).

For View B, the garment has positive ease (it is not designed to stretch over your curves like a garment with negative ease would), so you may not need to grade between sizes. Additionally, knit fabrics will adapt to your body more than woven garments, so are more forgiving in fit.

This pattern is drafted for a B cup bust and a height of 170cm (5'7"). Use the LENGTHEN / SHORTEN line on the pattern to make alterations to the length above the bust. Due to the design, to make alterations to the finished length, we suggest you add or remove length directly from the hem.

This pattern is drafted for a height of 170cm (5’7”). Use the LENGTHEN/SHORTER line on the pattern to make alterations to the length.

Fabric requirements and finished garment measurements can be found here.

Pattern includes seam allowances.

Difficulty

The pattern is placed at a Level 2.5 on the In The Folds pattern skill scale, and has been designed for advanced beginners and beyond. Through careful drafting and beautiful finishing techniques, this pattern will have you feeling very proud of both the inside and outside of your garment.

By working through this pattern, you will gain confidence in sewing French seams, gathers, narrow neck binding, knit fabrics, knit neck bands, and hemming knits.

I have downloaded several of your patterns but at the moment I have sewn just two of them (a Wrap top and a apir of Wide leg pants). The others are awaiting for the right fabric. But I'm understanding that waiting is part of the process!

Love this group and more!

The patterns, instructions and monthly interactions with the In The Folds hosts are great and has really helped to improve my skills. The online group is pure joy. Everyone is positive, shares very useful information and other resources beyond In The Fold. I take part every month even I am not working on a project because I love the group. I love the style of ITF clothing and as a beginner, being part of this group has built my wardrobe, sewing tools/skills and pattern library. I love having fabrics I pick and clothes that fit me.

Wow, Kathy! Thank you so much. We're so happy we can help you on your sewing journey!

So much more than a pattern-a-month subscription

The team at ITF are all about skill building so you can apply those skills to any pattern you like in future - beautiful construction techniques, fitting to the wearers body, adjusting or "hacking" a pattern to make it your own. Often the monthly projects are designed in a series - such as, learn options and skills to make a collared shirt, then make a collared shirt, then hack it to make it your own as a dress etc. The Foldies online community is also very supportive and well organised using Mighty Networks. I love it!

Thank you so much for this, Jo! Glad you love our learning approach.

So Very Worth A Subscription!

Early on I got the feeling that In The Folds was a bit different. They were always generous with sharing their knowledge, quick to fully and helpfully answer questions all the while offering designs that I - as an older sewist - loved! Clean lines, great directions and patterns that appeal to ALL age groups. What’s not to love? !

A subscription to In The Folds is well worth the small cost and I love encouraging a group that is so welcoming and talented! We need more like them. I urge any sewist - from beginner to advanced- to consider at least trying a subscription. You will, no doubt learn something, support a special group, and have access to patterns that suit all shapes, sizes and ages! Perhaps like me, once you try a subscription you will wonder why you waited so long and will continue to look forward to each new edition!

Keep up the great work!

Marie, this review has MADE OUR DAY! Thanks you SO MUCH.
