Burwood Tool Roll
Learning new techniques is easier when you remove the pressure of working on a full garment. The Burwood tool roll is designed as a practical project that lets you focus on building skills while creating something useful.
Rather than a traditional sampler, this project brings together key jeans-making techniques into a beautifully functional piece.
The Burwood tool roll includes:
- A fly front
- Patch pockets
- A curved front pocket with coin pocket
- A variety of seam finishes used in jeans-making
You’ll also have the opportunity to test your machine settings, practise topstitching, and install hardware.
The finished tool roll folds to 30cm x 23cm (11¾ x 9in) and closes with Velcro and snap fasteners. When unrolled, it measures 30cm x 81cm (11¾ x 32in). It includes external pockets for smaller tools and a customisable interior to suit your own sewing kit.

Difficulty
The pattern is placed at a Level 3.5 on the In The Folds pattern skill scale, and has been designed for intermediate sewists and beyond.
Beginner sewists can still take this on, as the Skills Kit includes detailed guidance for every step. Working through the project will build confidence across a wide range of jeans-making techniques and finishing skills.
