Whitlow robe

Regular price $22.00

The Whitlow robe is a relaxed robe designed for slow and easy mornings. It is the perfect cover-up to throw on as you prepare for the day (or duck out to get the mail in), or to relax on the couch in. It has two length options, one that finishes above the knee, the other below the knee.

Garment Details

The robe features raglan sleeves, a deep overlap (for a great amount of coverage), pockets (in-seam or patch), shaped collar band and a waist sash. Interior waist ties keep the robe nice and secure. The hem is finished with a facing for a beautiful and clean finish. Choose between a cropped sleeve or a longer sleeve with a hem facing.

Seam finishes depend on your fabric choice. Lightweight fabrics are finished with French seams, while thicker fabrics are finished with an overlocker / serger or zig-zag stitch.

Please note: This listing is for a digital pattern only.

Suggested Fabrics

The Whitlow robe is compatible with a wide variety of woven fabrics. For a lightweight robe, consider: linen, linen blends, cotton lawn, sateen, silk charmeuse, viscose, lyocell (rayon) or double gauze.

For a warmer robe, consider terry towelling, waffle weave, cotton flannelette or polar fleece. Please note: for thicker fabrics, you may choose to cut the waist tie pieces (hidden inside the robe) in a lighter-weight fabric.

Fabric requirements and finished garment measurements can be found here.

Notions

  • Coordinating thread

  • Optional: 1.4m (1.6yds) light to mid-weight fusible interfacing

  • Optional: If your fabric is prone to stretching, you may choose to use interfacing tape to stabilise the front opening. Alternatively, tearaway vilene can be used.

Please note: interfacing is for the collar only. Depending on your fabric and preferences, you may choose not to use interfacing

The pattern is available in both sizes A - J (drafted for a B sewing cup size) and sizes G - P (drafted for a D sewing cup size). Our size charts can be found here.

The Whitlow robe is designed to be relaxed in fit. Select a size based on your high bust measurement. Due to the nature of the design and the amount of ease in the pattern, it is unlikely that you will need to make a bust adjustment if your bust measurement is in a different size bracket than your high bust. It is also unlikely that you will need to grade between pattern sizes due to the nature of the wrap.

Patterns are drafted for height of 170cm (5'7") and include a ‘lengthen / shorten line’ so you can make adjustments to suit your height.

Fabric requirements and finished garment measurements can be found here.

Pattern includes seam allowances.

Difficulty

The pattern is placed at a Level 1.5 on the In the Folds pattern skill scale, which means you have some basic projects under your belt and are ready for new challenges.

By working through this pattern, you will gain confidence in: sewing raglan sleeves, sewing French seams (if you choose this seam option), sewing pockets (in-seam or patch), attaching a straight collar and stitching in the ditch.

Great pattern

I chose this pattern as I'm getting back into sewing after a long hiatus, and wanted to make something that was relatively low stakes (worn at home only!) but with enough detail to learn new skills. So far I'm really enjoying working away at it slowly. The pattern is easy to follow and I like that there are different options for finishing, all which are clearly explained. At the moment I'm in the process of attaching the collar and encountered my first hiccup as it doesn't extend far enough past the bottom hem, so I've steamed the pieces as per the instructions and fingers crossed it'll be right when I come to pin it again (otherwise I may be in touch for some tips :) Would definitely purchase another pattern from In the Folds.

We love it when we hear that one of our patterns has converted a sewist to become an ITF lover! Sometimes we just need something slow and low stakes - please share your finish with us, Danielle!

best robe ever

This is a great robe design that is better than any of the robes I have ever been able to find in the stores. It is a thoughtful design - comfy, good coverage (thus, better look than the store-bought ones) and hardwearing French seams. The best part is, I made it myself! The instructions are easy to follow, and a glossary of terms is provided for novice sewist like me. I was so happy with this first garment I have ever made that I signed up to ITF's membership, and have been learning new skills and making new clothes ever since.

What a wonderful review, Freda! Thanks so much!
