Neale jumpsuit Hack Kit

Making clothing you love to wear is about having the ability to tailor garments to fit your body, your preferences and your needs. This is why, for Issue 2 of Curated by ITF, we are sharing the foundations of patternmaking with you.

For this issue of Curated by ITF, you will receive the Neale jumpsuit Hack Kit. This is a jam-packed resource that will get you started with information about patternmaking tools and some of the most used patternmaking techniques. Then, the skills are applied to four different pattern hacks, so you can give all your new skills a go and gain some confidence by working through the patterns. The hacks have been designed so that no matter what your patternmaking experience is, there will be something for you. More details about each individual hack can be found below.

One of the challenges of pattern hacking is that you no longer have instructions for how to make the garment. We've solved this problem by including a construction resource, that goes through everything from working out fabric yardage, order of construction for the hacks and then does a deep dive into specific dressmaking techniques.

Neale jumpsuit with straight neckline

The Neale jumpsuit with straight neckline has the same fit as the original Neale jumpsuit. The neckline is changed for a different look and feel. Due to the design, the zip is moved to the centre back seam, removing the need for a shoulder opening. The jumpsuit has bust darts, narrow straps, in-seam pockets and an all-in-one facing to create a clean finish on the neckline and armholes.

The optional belt pattern piece can be used from the original pattern to change the silhouette of the jumpsuit.

Neale elastic waist pants

The Neale elastic waist pants are a pair of loose fitting pants that sit on the waist. In the legs, they have the same fit as the original jumpsuit. The pants feature an elastic waistband with casing and in-seam pockets.

Neale sleeveless boxy top

The Neale sleeveless top is a boxy cropped tank top. The top can be lengthened to suit your preferences and taste. The top is boxier in fit than the original Neale jumpsuit pattern. The top has bust darts and armholes and neckline are finished with bias binding.

Neale jumpsuit with waist seam and darts

The Neale jumpsuit with waist seam and darts is a fitted jumpsuit with a waist seam. Fit is created by waist darts in the front and back in both the bodice and pants from the jumpsuit. The jumpsuit features a v-neck, button placket in the centre front and in-seam pockets. Although the waist is more fitted than the original Neale jumpsuit pattern, the fit of the pants remains the same through the hips and legs.

Please note: The pattern hacks in the Neale jumpsuit Fit Kit are based on the Neale jumpsuit pattern, so we'd suggest grabbing Issue 1 to support the skills you will be learning through Issue 2 (although you could apply some of the hacks to other jumpsuit patterns if you wanted to).

We created four different pattern hacks for the Neale jumpsuit. They have been designed so that no matter what your patternmaking experience is, there will be something for you.

Are you new to pattern hacking? Try the jumpsuit with straight neckline or the elastic waist pants. These are a great place to start your pattern hacking journey and will help you gain confidence.

Ready to level up? We'd suggest trying the sleeveless boxy top that makes a perfect outfit with the elastic waist pants.

For those of you who want to learn a whole heap of new skills, our fitted jumpsuit with darts is the perfect project as it covers a lot of new skills, and gives you a chance to try a lot of different techniques.

Keen to learn as much as you can? Try them all! You will be able to download the Hack Kit as soon as you receive it and will be able to refer back to it as much as you like. Apply the skills you learn to the Neale jumpsuit and then practice them on other patterns in your stash.
