This tier allows another maker access to the subscription (which we will organise). It is not gifting to a friend. What do you do when you’ve chosen a pattern and found the perfect fabric… except it’s a little too sheer and the pattern isn’t lined?
Or you want to add a lining to a coat you’re going to make for a top quality finish?
Or if a skirt needs a lining so it doesn’t cling?
Knowing how to draft and sew linings is a fantastic skill to add to your toolkit. Never pass on a pattern you love because it isn’t lined, and extend the functionality of the patterns you already own!
Part two of our latest In the Folds garment sewing series, the Sewing linings Skills Kit is a comprehensive guide to sewing the linings you have drafted using part one, the Drafting linings Skills Kit.
This resource covers all the nitty gritty about linings. It will help you achieve a professional finish and give you confidence when selecting lining fabric. It covers what to consider when sewing linings with unattached hems, buttons, waistbands, zips and facings and more, and will ensure you no longer feel out of your depth when it comes to adding linings to your garments.
Using the In the Folds Ormond coat, Barkly skirt and Stow and Cartwright dress patterns as the learning foundation, you’ll be equipped with extensive new lining skills that you can then apply to other designs in your own personal pattern collection.
The skills covered in this Kit:
- Understanding lining fabrics - when to choose different fabrics
- Lining jackets and coats (Ormond)
- Lining skirts with waistbands and facings (Barkly)
- Linings and zips
- Lining dresses with and without sleeves (Stow and Cartwright)
- Different methods for lining garments with facings
These tutorials have been created so you can use them over and over, and adapt them to any project you like.
Please note: Although the tutorials from the Sewing linings Skills Kit can be applied to a range of patterns, the tutorials are based on lining patterns drafted using the Drafting linings Skills Kit and In the Folds Ormond, Barkly, Stow and Cartwright patterns. We recommend working through the tutorials using the related patterns and Skills Kit, before applying them to other patterns. Current Curated members can purchase the related patterns and resource from our Past Issues catalogue, for $15AUD (plus taxes).
Mighty Networks group
We will be working on everything together in our Mighty Networks group with sewalongs for the Barkly skirt and Ormond coat. Ask questions, share your makes and connect with other makers who are also on a mission to learn new skills and sew clothing in a slow and conscious way.
Difficulty
The content covered in the Sewing linings Skills Kit is suitable for sewists of all levels.
If you’re new to lining garments, we recommend starting with the Barkly skirt, moving onto the Cartwright and Stow dress patterns, and finishing with the biggest skill builder of them all, the Ormond coat.
Digital product details
The Sewing linings Skills Kit: 86 pages of sewing tutorials and content. The booklet is suitable for printing on both A4 and US letter sized paper, or can be viewed onscreen using a PDF viewer.
