Curated by In the Folds

Are you ready to make clothes you will wear, love and cherish?

In the Folds is now offering a monthly subscription that brings together patterns, techniques and answers your specific questions, all in one place, within the In the Folds community.

Curated by ITF projects will help you learn more skills, instead of just making more clothes.

Sewing a handmade wardrobe you are proud of is about learning the skills and building on them over time. With these resources (and access to our online community group), you will build a resource and pattern library that you can refer to on your handmade journey, empowering you to sew a wardrobe that you love, one piece and one skill at a time. We are excited for you to join us.

More information about Curated by In the Folds can be found here.

Skill Sharer

You love what we do at In the Folds and you would like to share it with another maker.

The Skill Sharer tier enables you to pay for your own subscription to the Skill Builder tier and gift one to another maker who cannot afford the subscription at the moment.

If you’d like to sign-up to receive a gifted membership from someone in our community find more details here.

You and another member of our community will gain access to:

  • New monthly projects: You will receive your first project when you sign up and then on the first of every month, you’ll receive a new project straight to your inbox. This will teach you new skills and build on what we’ve been learning each month.

PLEASE NOTE: This tier allows another maker access to the subscription (which we will organise). It is not gifting to a friend. If you would prefer to gift a membership to a friend or family member, select this membership tier and provide us with their name and email address in the notes at checkout. Please be aware that at this stage, gifted memberships are a manual process (we're working on it), which means your friend or loved one will not receive the project instantly.

This Month's Project

'Tis the season for comfy clothes - light and breezy if you're in the southern hemisphere, warm and cosy if you're in the northern hemisphere. It's also the season to start thinking about handmade gifts. This is why, for Issue 3 of Curated by ITF, we have created this loungewear pattern that was designed with gift giving in mind (whether it's a gift for yourself or a loved one)!

The Whitlow robe is a relaxed robe designed for slow and easy mornings. It is the perfect cover-up to throw on as you prepare for the day (or duck out to get the mail in), or to relax on the couch in. It has two length options, one that finishes above the knee, the other below the knee.

Garment Details

The robe features raglan sleeves, a deep overlap (for a great amount of coverage), pockets (in-seam or patch), shaped collar band and a waist sash. Interior waist ties keep the robe nice and secure. The hem is finished with a facing for a beautiful and clean finish. Choose between a cropped sleeve or a longer sleeve with a hem facing.

Seam finishes depend on your fabric choice. Lightweight fabrics are finished with French seams, while thicker fabrics are finished with an overlocker / serger or zig-zag stitch.

Suggested Fabrics

The Whitlow robe is compatible with a wide variety of woven fabrics. For a lightweight robe, consider: linen, linen blends, cotton lawn, sateen, silk charmeuse, viscose, lyocell (rayon) or double gauze.

For a warmer robe, consider terry towelling, waffle weave, cotton flannelette or polar fleece. Please note: for thicker fabrics, you may choose to cut the waist tie pieces (hidden inside the robe) in a lighter-weight fabric.

Fabric requirements and finished garment measurements can be found here.

We also have some fantastic fabric recommendations to share with you during November in our Mighty Networks group (you gain access when you sign up to Curated). We know that selecting fabric (particularly when shopping online) can be really tricky and feel like a bit of a gamble, so we have taken the guesswork out by contacting some of our favourite independent fabric retailers to give us a hand.

Notions

  • Coordinating thread

  • Optional: 1.4m (1.6yds) light to mid-weight fusible interfacing

  • Optional: If your fabric is prone to stretching, you may choose to use interfacing tape to stabilise the front opening. Alternatively, tearaway vilene can be used.

Please note: interfacing is for the collar only. Depending on your fabric and preferences, you may choose not to use interfacing

The pattern is available in 10 sizes (A - J, which equates to Australian sizes 6-24) and is nested, to make it easier for you to grade between sizes.

In the Folds patterns are drafted for a B cup bust. The Whitlow robe is designed to be relaxed in fit. Select a size based on your high bust measurement. Due to the nature of the design and the amount of ease in the pattern, it is unlikely that you will need to make a bust adjustment if your bust measurement is in a different size bracket than your high bust. It is also unlikely that you will need to grade between pattern sizes due to the nature of the wrap.

Patterns are drafted for height of 170cm (5'7") and include a ‘lengthen / shorten line’ so you can make adjustments to suit your height.

Fabric requirements and finished garment measurements can be found here.

Pattern includes seam allowances.

Difficulty

The pattern is placed at a Level 1.5 on the In the Folds pattern skill scale, which means you have some basic projects under your belt and are ready for new challenges.

By working through this pattern, you will gain confidence in: sewing raglan sleeves, sewing French seams (if you choose this seam option), sewing pockets (in-seam or patch), attaching a straight collar and stitching in the ditch.

Digital product details

The pattern is suitable for printing on both A4 and US letter sized paper. A copy shop version is also included in the file (A0 or US 36" x 48").

Print at home pattern: 70 pages (a printing plan is included in the instructions so that you can choose to only print the pages you need for your size).

Print shop version: 4 x A0 pages (Due to the scale of the robe pieces, two sheets will still need to be taped together).

The pattern includes embedded layers. This means that you can select only the size/s you would like to print.

If you have any questions please see our FAQ and Digital Product Policy.
