Curated by In the Folds - Issue 50
Are you ready to make clothes you will wear, love and cherish?
In the Folds offers a monthly subscription that brings together patterns, techniques and answers your specific questions, all in one place, within the In the Folds community.
Curated by ITF projects will help you learn more skills, instead of just making more clothes.
Sewing a handmade wardrobe you are proud of is about learning the skills and building on them over time. With these resources (and access to our online community group), you will build a resource and pattern library that you can refer to on your handmade journey, empowering you to sew a wardrobe that you love, one piece and one skill at a time. We are excited for you to join us.

This tier allows another maker access to the subscription (which we will organise). It is not gifting to a friend. If you would prefer to gift a membership to a friend or family member, select this membership tier and provide us with their name and email address in the notes at checkout. Please be aware that at this stage, gifted memberships are a manual process (we're working on it), which means your friend or loved one will not receive the project instantly.
Please note: you will be charged your first month's subscription fee when you sign-up and receive the current project directly to your inbox. After that, you will be charged on the first of each month and receive your new project on the first of each month.
This Month's Project
Whether you’ve been saving “the good fabric” for the right project or want to add finesse to your sewing, this issue will help you build confidence and precision at every step.
We created this Delicate Fabrics Series to make the process as smooth as possible, breaking down the process of creating a top from a delicate fabric into two sections. First, we worked on adjusting the pattern for the change in fabric with the Delicate Fabrics Hack Kit so we could solely focus on pattern making.
Now it’s time to start sewing with this month’s issue, The Delicate Fabrics Skills Kit. We will guide you through the process of sewing with lightweight, sheer and slippery fabrics such as silk, voile, organza and rayon. By focusing on each step of the process, we can fine-tune the skills required for each part of the process rather than trying to do everything all at once. Here at In the Folds, our mission is to inspire and empower you to make clothes that you will wear, love and cherish. This means we'd like to support you through the process from beginning to end.
Please note: Although the skills in this Kit could be applied to any project using delicate fabrics, the processes refer to the self-drafted pattern in Issue 50: Delicate Fabrics Hack Kit. Once you’re a member of Curated you can purchase any of the previous Curated issues.
This Kit includes a full illustrated guide with detailed explanations of tools, pressing techniques and setup to sew with delicate fabrics and step-by-step tutorials for seams, hems and bindings.
The skills covered in this Kit:
-
Essential tools for sewing with delicate fabrics
-
How to choose and prepare delicate fabrics
-
How to prepare your sewing machine for sewing with delicate fabrics
-
How to cut delicate fabric accurately using stabilising techniques
-
Perfect essential seam finishes such as French seams, rolled hems, and bias and French binding
-
Sew a lightweight top using the pattern you drafted in the Delicate Fabrics Hack Kit (Issue 50)
Mighty Networks group
Once again, we will be working on everything together in our Mighty Networks group. This means that you will be able to ask questions, share your makes and connect with other makers who are also on a mission to learn new skills and sew clothing in a slow and conscious way.
Please note: Although the skills in this Kit could be applied to any project using delicate fabrics, the processes refer to the self-drafted pattern in Issue 50: Delicate Fabrics Hack Kit. Once you’re a member of Curated you can purchase any of the previous Curated issues.
