Rushcutter dress

Regular price $22.00

Garment details

The Rushcutter is an oversized knee-length, A-line dress, designed for woven fabrics, available in two different styles.

The Rushcutter is beautifully designed and carefully drafted to include many interesting details, to make this a very enjoyable sew for sewers at a range of different levels.

View A features three-quarter length raglan sleeves, large side pockets, invisible zip, bound neckline and a wide hem facing.

View B is a sleeveless version, with back button closure. It features in-seam pockets, with neckline and armholes finished with bias binding. Included in the pattern is an optional waist sash, that is suitable for both styles.

Difficulty

The pattern is placed at a Level 2 on the In the Folds pattern skill scale.

By working through this pattern, you will gain confidence in: sewing a straight seam, sewing a curved seam, bias facing armholes / neckline, sewing buttonholes, buttons and an invisible zip (depending on which view you decide to make).

Suggested Fabrics

The Rushcutter is quite a versatile pattern and is compatible with a range of different fabrics. Consider using, light to mid-weight fabrics such as: cotton shirting, poplin, sateen, linen, silk, light to mid-weight wool, chambray or light to mid-weight denim.

Your fabric choice will have a big impact on the silhouette you will achieve. For a more structured, boxy look, consider mid-weight denim, twill or jacquard. Or, for a more relaxed, draped look, consider a viscose blend or silk crepe de chine.

Fabric requirements and finished garment measurements can be found here.

Quite nice, would make again with alterations

I liked how this fitted together, made a denim long sleeved version. I find the fit a bit odd, maybe as it's a B cup and I'm larger than that. I also found the neck high, but wouldn't know how to lower with the raglan set up. Don't think I will make it again, but love some elements of it.

Hi Janice! Thanks for your feedback. You can find tutorials for altering cup size and a raglan neckline on our website. Hope these help.
Happy sewing!

Fabulous pattern

Versatile and comfortable, this pattern is perfect for so many fabrics, easy to adjust and hack ;)
I made this pattern in a silver foil linen/cotton sateen/printed cotton for my daughter and due to the many panels the pattern is constructed, I had the possibility of combining different fabrics. For myself I made two shorter versions as I had to adapt acording to the type and amount of fabric, heavy Japanese cotton. It is a very easy to adapt pattern, clear instructions, flattering on any type of body. Thank you Emily, you are a star!

Love the Rushcutter

This dress is such a versatile project. It really inspires creation. I have made one garment using some leftover fabric and am delighted with the result. Fun to sew, the pockets are perfect. The pieces fit together nicely with interesting design features. I am inspired that the Rushcutter can be as understated or show stopping as I want.

interesting make, quirky style

I have made two of the sleeved version; one in denim and one with an acid lemon/green linen top section (front, sleeves and pockets) and the rest in a Stoff French fabric with beetles on it. It was a lighter weight so I used the linen as the hem (inside) to give a bit more weight. I love the way the pattern comes together. I did lower the neckline by about 1/2inch the second time and I also did a full bust adjustment (only one inch on the front pattern piece so total of 2in on the front). It then sits more to my liking in the front. I love wearing these dresses - so comfortable. I might make another for winter with full length sleeves so I can more easily put a cardigan over the top. I bought the pattern in a local shop and traced off my size- the tissue paper was rather flimsy but I am more used to PDF patterns these days! This was my first In the Folds pattern and I enjoyed it immensely.

Rushcutter , a dress for all seasons

I have made two of each version. I love the way each piece of the garment fits together. The only alteration I needed to make was to shorten the length. Otherwise perfect. I discovered IntheFolds patterns when I returned to sewing after many decades. Emily holds your hand all the way through the process.
