Curated by ITF - Issue 10
Barkly skirt + Fit Kit
We all love it when something we make fits us without any alterations. #winning right? But if we’re honest, it’s rarely the case. Every single body on earth is unique in many ways - size, shape, curved or straight… the list goes on. Being able to make a garment fit the nuances of your own body is a learned skill, and it’s one that we’re passionate about here at ITF. Because why should we put up with ill-fitting clothes if we don’t have to?
The Fit Kits we've released so far have encouraged so many sewists to up their fitting game and have given makers the support and confidence they needed to give fitting adjustments a go. So we’re very excited to share our latest Curated by ITF project with you - the Barkly skirt and Fit Kit!
This project will expand your understanding of the fitting and toiling process for a skirt and teach you some new techniques to add to your garment sewing tool belt. We will support you to make a toile of the Barkly skirt and give you a step-by-step process for doing a fitting, as well as how to fit yourself if you don’t have an extra pair of hands to help you!
If you’re new to experimenting with garment fitting, this is the project for you! A skirt is a perfect way to dip your toes into the fitting pool without getting overwhelmed.
While the tutorials have been designed to work alongside the Barkly skirt, they can be used for a range of skirt patterns with a similar shape.
Garment Details
The Barkly skirt is a panelled A-line skirt with pockets and a range of interesting and fun to sew details. It has been designed to be worn all year round - in summer in soft linens with sandals and in winter in denim with tights and boots.
View A sits on the natural waist (the top of the waistband will sit just above the natural waist) and features a shaped waistband, slanted pockets that are inset in the side panels and a hem facing.
View B sits just below the natural waist (as it features a waist facing, rather than a waistband), has patch pockets (which are therefore optional), and side splits in the hem.
Both styles feature a centre back invisible zip for a clean finish.
Styles can be mixed and matched so that you can combine your style preferences. More information can be found in the STYLE VARIATION KIT.
Please note: This product can only be purchased by current Curated by ITF subscribers. If you would like to sign-up you can do so here.
