Curated by ITF - Issue 7
Sawtell top + sleeves
The ethos behind all that we do at In the Folds is longevity. We create patterns and resources that can be used over and over so that you can make garments that you will wear over and over.
We know a lot of you love sleeves, so for this month's issue of Curated by ITF we designed the Sawtell top and sleeve expansion pack. You get the Sawtell top PLUS the choice of 4 different sleeves! A straight sleeve, a gathered sleeve, a flared sleeve and a fun dropped gathered sleeve. With these sleeves in your pattern stash (and our guidance in the Fit Kit) you can make lots of Sawtells (tops or dresses) or add one of these fun sleeves to another pattern in your stash.
The Sawtell Mix and Match Kit has been designed for you to be able to try a range of different sleeve options for your Sawtell top (or dress). This pattern will teach you some fun new sewing skills such as: sewing pleats, attaching a yoke, sewing an inset placket, sewing bias binding and setting in sleeves.
We’ve created a jam-packed Fit Kit to accompany the pattern which covers pattern alterations for common fit issues, as well as some fun ways to adapt sleeves to fit your preferences. Although we’ve designed the Fit Kit to work alongside the Sawtell top, you will be able to refer to it long into the future when you are working on other projects. We even show you how you can use the Sawtell sleeves on other patterns!
Garment Details
The Sawtell top is a sophisticated wardrobe staple with a range of interesting details. In a lightweight fabric it is the perfect summer cover-up. In a heavier fabric, it can be styled with jeans or a wrap skirt and can take you through to autumn. The Sawtell top is hip length, features an inset placket with pleats and bust darts. It has a yoke and box pleat in the back and a wide hem. The neckline is finished with bias binding. In a striped fabric you can have lots of fun with stripe direction!
The Sawtell Mix and Match Kit has been designed for you to be able to try a range of different sleeve options for your Sawtell top. You can also use these sleeves, and the new placket piece, to make variations of the Sawtell dress from Curated by ITF Issue 6.
Please note: This product can only be purchased by current Curated by ITF subscribers. If you would like to sign-up you can do so here.
Suggested Fabrics
The Sawtell top is compatible with light to medium weight fabrics such as: linen, linen blends, cotton and lightweight denim. If you would like to use something lightweight, such as viscose / rayon or silk, consider fusing the placket pieces for additional stability.
Keep in mind that the weight of the fabric will determine the amount of structure in the finished garment. Softer fabrics will give the garment drape and movement, while stiffer fabrics will create a more voluminous and structured silhouette.

Notions
-
Coordinating thread
-
1m (1.1yd) x 32mm (1 1/4 in) single fold bias tape
- View C only: 0.2m (0.25yd) x light to mid-weight fusible interfacing
The pattern is available in both sizes A - J (drafted for a B sewing cup size) and sizes G - P (drafted for a D sewing cup size). Our size charts can be found here.
The Sawtell top is designed to be loose and boxy in shape. Soft shaping is created at the bust through subtle shaping at the top of the side seam and bust darts.
The Sawtell top is designed to have considerable ease at the waist and hips, so keep this is mind when selecting a size. Your hip measurement might be in a larger size bracket than your waist - before grading between sizes, check the finished garment measurements to check if there will be enough ease in the hips in the size bracket according to your waist measurement.
Patterns are drafted for height of 170cm (5'7") and include a ‘lengthen / shorten line’ so you can make adjustments to suit your height.
More details related to fitting the Sawtell top and making a toile can be found in the FIT KIT that is included with the pattern for this issue of Curated by ITF.
