Drafting linings Skills Kit
What do you do when you’ve chosen a pattern and found the perfect fabric… except it’s a little too sheer and the pattern isn’t lined?
Or you want to add a lining to a coat you’re going to make for a top quality finish?
Or if a skirt needs a lining so it doesn’t cling?
Knowing how to draft and sew linings is a fantastic skill to add to your toolkit. Never pass on a pattern you love because it isn’t lined, and extend the functionality of the patterns you already own!
Part one of our latest In the Folds garment sewing series, the Drafting linings Skills Kit is a comprehensive guide to drafting linings for a number of garments from our ITF range.
Learn about the purpose of linings, different lining types and how to draft linings for jackets and coats; skirts with waistbands, waist facings, and side splits; and dresses with and without sleeves, with tutorials for the Ormond coat pattern, Barkly skirt pattern, and the Stow and Cartwright dress patterns.
Equipped with these extensive new patternmaking skills, you can then apply the knowledge to other designs in your own personal pattern collection!
The skills covered in this Kit
-
Lining jackets and coats, with the Ormond coat pattern
-
Lining skirts with waistbands, waist facings and side splits with the Barkly skirt pattern
-
Lining dresses with and without sleeves, and how to draft a neckline facing, with the Stow dress and Cartwright dress and top patterns.
Please note: Although the tutorials from the Drafting linings Skills Kit can be applied to a range of patterns, the tutorials are based on the In the Folds Ormond, Barkly, Stow and Cartwright patterns. To begin with, for a more enjoyable experience, we recommend working through the tutorials using the related patterns, before applying them to other patterns. Current Curated members can purchase all four related patterns from our Past Issues catalogue for $15AUD (plus taxes).
